Abstract
A new reliability evaluation algorithm for complex radial distribution systems, which contains a subroutine of the improved distribution load flow dynamically responding the change of distribution network topology induced by system reconfiguration to examine the network constraints after network reconfiguration, is proposed. The algorithm effectively considers the automated characteristics of distribution systems, and thus considers the momentary interruptions. A parent-search technique is used to determine the affected area after a permanent fault occurs, and a breadth-first-search technique is used to classify the affected area into three sub-areas, which classifies the load points into nine classes based on their restoration times. An approach to control the accuracy and computing time of simulation is also presented. The algorithm can directly form the reliability indices of all load points, all feeders and the whole distribution system. A test distribution system is employed to illustrate the proposed algorithm.
