Abstract :
Irregular electron phase-orbits are harmful to the quality of the electron beam and thus deteriorates the performance of a free-electron laser (FEL). This paper shows that the plasma frequency substantially affects the electron phase-orbits, resulting in a transit from periodicity to non-periodicity.
