Abstract :
To investigate the association of HLA-B*5101 and male Behcet´s disease (BD). HLA-B51 antigens and HLA-B51 allele genotyping in 27 BD patients and 53 healthy controls were performed by complement-dependent microlymphocyte toxicity assay, OligoChip and PCR-sequence specific primer (SSP) method. HLA-B51 was found in 63% (17/27) of BD patients and in 15.1% (8/53) of controls < 0.0001, OR = 11.7, 95% CI 3.9-35.4). AH of HLA-B51 antigen positive patients and controls were HLA-B*5101. The genotype frequency of HLA-B*5101 allele was significantly increased in males (42.3% in females versus 80% in males), with an OR of 5.6 (95% CI 1.1-29.3, P < 0.05). Similar to other groups, HLA-B*5101 might be a susceptible gene for BD, and it was strongly correlated with male BD.
