Abstract :
The knowledge Base Change Monitor provides capabilities to track and analyze changes to the knowledge used by an expert system. This information can be used to evaluate proposed changes, evaluate performance of a changed system and provide information necessary for maintaining an evolving knowledge base. These capabilities are essential in large, complex production systems. The Knowledge Base Change Monitor prototype takes the first step in demonstrating how some facilities for the management of knowledge can be implemented. The approach used in this project integrates capabilities existing in several computer disciplines. Currently, the information collected by the monitor and the statistical analyses it produces are available to the analyst. With this feedback the analyst is able to tune the expert system, increasing the quality of its reasoning process over time
