Abstract
In this paper, a nonlinear controller for the fifth order model of a synchronous generator is designed. The design procedure is based on Hinfin control theory and consists of two parts. First, the feedback linearization technique is used. Then, a linear robust controller is designed for the system. The controller has two blocks. One, is a nonlinear function of some local measurable signals such as the generator active and reactive powers, the rotor speed and the armature current. The other block is a linear controller. The performance of the controller is tested on a sample multi-machine power system model. Simulation results show the effectiveness, robustness and good performance of the proposed controller.
