Abstract
The dc breakdown strength was dependent on the interface between the metal electrode and the PVDF film. When the positive electrode was blocked by inserting a thin layer of insulating polymer, the breakdown voltage was observed to decrease drastically due to different charge densities induced at the interface of the PVDF film. A thin film of PVDF was coated to other polymer films to form polymer laminates. It was found that the dc breakdown strength could be increased by as much as 18% by applying a very thin coating of PVDF. The permittivity and dissipation factor of the PVDF films and the polymer laminate over a wide frequency range was determined. The dc leakage current density was also measured
