Abstract :
A multilevel inverter topology is designed which is capable of generating 24 sided (icosikaitetragonal) voltage space vectors. The proposed converter can be used as an induction motor drive, but the motor should be an open ended induction motor. In an open ended induction motor all the six ends of the induction motor stator windings are used for feeding electric power. The structure of this inverter is made from five 3-phase 2-level inverters. Three 2-level inverters are cascaded on the left side and two 2-level inverters are cascaded on the right side of the proposed inverter, to form the power circuit. Icosikaitetragonal space vector modulation increases the modulation range, makes the output waveform more sinusoidal, brings down the total harmonic distortion. FFT analysis of this multilevel inverter is compared with the FFT analysis of octadecagonal voltage space vector modulation. Simulation is done by using space vector PWM technique.
