Abstract :
Production of hydrogen peroxide by pulsed high voltage discharge in water has been investigated in this paper. The hydrogen peroxide production increased with the increase of applied voltage, and the decrease of discharge gap and conductivity of the solution. With an applied voltage of 40 kV, a gap of 2.0 cm and water conductivity of 2.0 mus/cm the peroxide hydrogen concentration could reach 0.895 mmol/L after 80 min discharging. Mechanism of hydrogen production was discussed as well. Changes of solution caused by discharge were also investigated, including the decrease of pH value and increase of temperature. The decrease of pH shows that the hydrogen peroxide was produced by discharge rather than electrolysis.
