Abstract :
Dynamic nature of grid necessitates for integration of more renewable energy sources like wind energy to grid. Major problems associated with integration of wind power are need of voltage support during grid faults and the power oscillations due to intermittent nature of wind power. Necessary real and reactive power support for wind energy integration is given by storage devices and voltage compensating devices like STATCOM. High cost of the power electronic devices like STATCOM limits their extensive use for grid support. This paper analyses real and reactive power support given by plug in electric vehicles for smooth integration of wind power. A new vehicle side controller is developed which can control real and reactive power exchange with grid independently.
