Abstract :
A reliable and consistent measure of quality of electric power is essential for diagnostics and mitigation of many power system problems. The authors describe a prototype designed and developed at IREQ. The system produces a report on the following degradation in power quality: root-mean-square (RMS) voltage variations from 2 per day to 0.5 Hz; RMS voltage variations from 0.5 Hz to 25 Hz; unbalance in fundamental component of voltage; harmonics in voltages and currents up to 300 Hz; and transient variations slower than 50 microseconds. The system is based on a laptop PC with a custom interface to the power system, located in a similar size briefcase for easy portability
