Abstract :
The problem of rotor hub echo usage for hovering helicopter detection and classification with a radar system is presented. A theoretical model of rotor hub backscatter is compared with results obtained from radar signal analysis. The possibility of identifying a helicopter by the characteristic “shelf” in its Doppler echo spectrum is explained, along with analysis of conditions necessary for detecting this characteristic
