Abstract :
A circuit-oriented approach for the analysis and modeling of outphasing transmitters is presented. It is shown that the nonlinearity introduced by the Chireix combiner is mainly due to the difficulty to anticipate their phase-to-power transfer function. A new analytical expression of this transfer function is proposed. The simplicity of the model enables an intuitive understanding of the outphasing transmitter functionalities and a comprehensive analysis and optimization of its performances.
