Abstract
A light-confining cavity to enhance the absorption of light of solar cells that achieves the light confinement by reduction of the escaping etendue, rather than that of the entry aperture area, is presented. Therefore, its entry aperture is large and no secondary is required. The cavity performance is theoretically studied and experimentally demonstrated, showing more than a one-and-a-half-point increase in efficiency.<>
