Abstract
A composite (computer, voice/video codec, facsimile, etc.) data signal is to be transmitted from a suitcase sized EHF (30/20 GHz) satellite terminal via a satellite and master earth station to public networks. Three TCP/IP data transfer protocols (PPP, SLIP and CSLIP) are presented where the effect of satellite propagation delay and signal quality are examined for data rates up to 19.2 kbps. Demonstrations were made over a Ku-band satellite of simultaneous PSTN and Internet communications using a 1.2 m portable satellite terminal. The Novell Wanlink PPP protocol was also evaluated over satellite at data rates up to 256 kbps
