Abstract :
Today´s municipal managers are required to be both successful business managers and technical specialists. This paper outlines a course unit aiming to broaden the knowledge, skills and attitudes of engineers in local government. It discusses the techniques used to achieve success in the post-graduate diploma and MBA (Technology Management) distance education package from the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers (APESMA). Two examples of topics are detailed: the privatisation of service delivery, and the requirements of asset management systems
