Abstract
In this paper, we address the odor source localization (OSL) problem in wireless sensor network. The OSL has potential application in the fields such as environmental monitoring, pollution control, and explosives detection. A particle filter (PF) is proposed for the location estimation of the odor source using the concentration measured at regular intervals by a network of spatially distributed chemical sensors. Numerical analysis of the PF performance for different sensor distance is presented. Maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) algorithm is also implemented for comparison. Simulation results show that the PF based OSL algorithm has higher localization accuracy and is more robust than the MLE based OSL algorithm.
