A computer-based teaching system for electronic design education

The Electronic Design Education Consortium (EDEC) is dedicated to the production of computer-based teaching and learning material to support the education of electronic engineers and computer scientists. It is one of the projects being funded under the Teaching and Learning Technology Programme (TLTP), a major initiative of the UK Higher Education Funding Councils aimed at making teaching and learning more productive and efficient by harnessing modern technology. This paper begins with a brief overview of the development of computer-based teaching and learning in the UK. The aims and objectives of the Teaching and Learning Technology Programme are then set out in sufficient detail to understand the context, in which the EDEC project is operating. This is followed by an account of the methods being used by EDEC to achieve its stated goal of producing 160 hours of courseware during the three year duration of the project
