Abstract
The theory of pattern recognition provides a convenient tool for the construction of systems of relay protection and control that have complex operational algorithms. As an example of applying the theory of recognition in the field of relay protection and control, construction of an asynchronous mode detector was considered which also determines the direction of mutual motion of EMF vectors in an asynchronous mode and provides reliable blocking of the device during synchronous shunt effects and short-circuits. The application of the proposed approach can be useful in the construction of algorithms for a broad class of complex relay system devices
