Abstract :
Due to the complexity of generator stator insulation structure and various deterioration mechanisms under multistress. Insulation condition assessment is usually performed by experts with special knowledge and experience. In this paper, an expert system is developed to make complicated insulation condition assessment accessible to plant maintenance engineers. The essential function of the expert system is outlined, such as data base management, diagnostic test guidance, deterioration cause inference. Remaining life estimation, maintenance advise. etc.. Also described in detail is the structure of the expert system, including knowledge base, inference engine. Example of application of the expert system is also presented
