Abstract :
The IEEE 488.1 and 488.2 standards are outlined, in regards to operating language, available specifications, and detailed instructions on how to design a General Purpose Interface Bus (GPIB) language which facilitates user tolerance. The discussion of language design covers the use of mnemonics; minimum uniqueness; command, required-characters, and offset tables; and search routines. An example is carried out to illustrate the use of minimum uniqueness
