Abstract :
Passive harmonic filters are commonly used as an effective solution in the power quality markets; however, the selection of capacitive component values in the multi-arm filter is usually a matter of trial and error. Someone can propose all capacitive components to be equal, but it has been observed that a better performance is obtained with unequal values. Different topologies which allow appropriate estimations of the capacitors values have been published. Each topology has its advantages and disadvantages. This paper presents an optimal design of passive harmonic filter parameters on the economical basis to guarantee the minimum cost and the minimum losses. The performance of the proposed filter is discussed and compared with other conventional technique using a real case study.
