Abstract :
The wireless sensor network nodes have limited buffers, battery and transmission power. Applications such as critical event detection and reporting may require faster access to the network and the sink node by using media access and routing protocols to avoid data losses. This paper proposes a buffer based media access control combined with greedy routing scheme in wireless sensor networks. The scheme provides highest priority for the node with maximum occupied buffers (containing event information) for media access. The routing is carried out through greedy algorithm, which makes an optimal choice of next hop for forwarding. The scheme has been simulated to study some of the important performance parameters like packet latency, throughput, and path setup time.
