Abstract :
This paper presents a new algorithm to determine the phase angle of voltage unbalance factor (VUF) from line voltages and also validated through test data. Validation results in negligible error. The proposed algorithm not only reduces the complexity exist in symmetrical component analysis but also convenient to field measurement as it requires only the magnitude of line voltages to determine the angle of unbalance. Additionally a voltage index is also suggested along with the magnitude and phase angle of VUF for the more precise assessment of induction motor (IM). Further performance and economic analysis of IM is presented under the different conditions of supply voltage unbalance.
