Abstract :
In this paper, we develop and demonstrate a Vehicle Group Communication System (VGCS) using IEEE 1609/802.11(p) radios. VGCS aims at enhancing the driving experience and fun when several drivers are forming a vehicle group and driving towards the same destination. VGCS provides a graphic interface for drivers to know the locations of other members and broadcast voice and data over the whole vehicle group. In addition, VGCS can exploit the supplementary cellular network to keep all vehicle group members connected, if the IEEE 1609/802.11(p) network is not available to all vehicle group members.
