Abstract :
We present a simple analytic model of a novel microwave device that utilizes the axial bunching mechanism of klystrons in conjunction with the energy extraction mechanism of gyrotrons. The viability of this device is demonstrated via preliminary theoretical modeling of a two-cavity amplifier that predicts efficiencies above 40% over a range of harmonic numbers with a 100 kV, 25 A beam. Details of the device operation and sensitivity to parameter variations are given.<>
