Abstract :
A two-dimensional model of the grooved solar cell has been developed, based on an approximate analysis that allows a closed-form solution to the fundamental transport equations of the device to be obtained. Thus, a flexible tool for the analysis of the cell is available, both for understanding the basis of its operation and as a design tool. Due to the two-dimensional carrier distribution in the base layer, it is demonstrated that this kind of structures exhibits higher short-circuit current, owing to the improved spectral response (particularly in the range of long wavelengths)
