Abstract
We consider a large alphabet channel model with noiseless feedback in which the channel is not known to the encoder or the decoder, and we provide several results to the effect that universal communication at capacity is possible only if it is possible for the encoder and decoder to completely learn the channel prior to the end of transmission.
