Abstract :
The IEC 61968/70 common information model (CIM) standards lay the foundation for an enterprise semantic model to achieve interoperability. The CIM has been extended to support planning applications and the exchange of steady state, short circuit, and dynamic models for simulation. The importance of focusing on interfaces for application of semantic model standards and especially for testing for interoperability and compliance is stressed. The role of EPRI in extending the CIM into new areas where interoperability is needed is described. The key role of profiles and messaging standards to establish interface contracts are explained.
