  • Abstract
    Experience suggests that hierarchical control is a superior architecture for machine control software, though no single design is suited for all applications. For cases involving complex sequencing, a state-machine is a power design and analysis tool. The use of a multitasking operating system and message service facilitates the implementation of hierarchical control design.
