  • Abstract
The integration of large scale wind generation on the New Zealand power system may be limited by transient stability considerations. Analysis of the effects of wind generation technology and location on transient stability on the New Zealand power system is presented. The analysis involved comparing the system transient performance of the existing system and present generation mix with cases where wind generation has become a substantial part of the generation mix. Studies were extended to assess the sensitivity of the system transient performance to the wind turbine technology. An assessment using critical fault clearance time analysis was also conducted to determine the effect of increasing displacement of other generation by wind generation on power system transient performance.
