Abstract :
This paper presents some trade-offs and performance limitations in practical magnetic levitation linear control. In addition to the classic performance-robustness trade-off in control design, the unstable nature of the open loop system presents additional difficulties for achieving robust stability and performance. With the knowledge of bounds on modeling error and performance limitations, the designer can quantify some of the performance trade-offs a priori. This information is valuable in an integrated system/control design, and in evaluating robust stability/performance limits of the system
