  • Abstract
    In image transmission, channel noise causes severe degradation in the quality of received images. Thus graceful degradation mechanism and error correction capability should be implemented in accordance with various image transmission scenarios. This paper presents a trial to address such a problem. In particular, the effect of error control coding (ECC) is investigated to protect the coded image quality against inevitable channel noise. Simulation results show that error control coding guarantees to receive images with the same PSNR as in the noiseless case when bit error rate (BER) is lower than 5×10-3
