Abstract
This paper is an analysis of the bit error rate (BER) performance of direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) with error correcting code in Nakagami fading channel. We consider the effect of the non-identical fading parameter and the RAKE branches using error correcting code on the system performance of a coherent binary phase shift keying (BPSK) RAKE receiver operating in the Nakagami fading channel. The error only decoding and erasure-and-error decoding techniques are used and the lower bounds BER of the post decoding system for RS-codes are obtained. The effect of the non-identical fading parameter makes the BER system performance slightly better than the identical case. The results obtained show that by using error correcting codes, increasing the branches and the identical fading parameter, the BER of coherent DS-CDMA in an arbitrary Nakagami fading channel can be improved significantly
