Abstract :
In this work, a novel and simple scheme of optical UWB generation based on a single electroabsorption modulator (EAM) is proposed and demonstrated. Using the photon detection in multiple-quantum-wells (MQW) waveguide with polarity-inversed electric pulse from short termination, the cross-absorption modulation and also reversely optical modulation can form an optical monocycle pulse. The structure is simple and compact, allowing optical UWB to be adapted into optoelectronic integration field.
