Abstract :
The influence of selected amine and halogen derivatives of p-phenylene and p,p´-biphenylene on the resistance of LDPE (low-density polyethylene) to the effects of temperature and partial discharges is described. The LDPE resistance was estimated on the basis of infrared spectrophotometric investigations, utilizing the band of the C=O arrangements as well as the band of the C=C unsaturated bonds. Amine derivatives of p-phenylene (PA, FA. 2FA) and p,p´-biphenylene (FD, 2FD) were found to cause the inhibition of the polyethylene oxidation process, under the influence of both temperature and partial discharges. The good antioxidizing properties of the amine derivatives can be intensified by the extension of the N-aryl systems of these compounds
