Abstract :
We discuss recent studies of large amplitude extreme value ldquooptical rogue waverdquo instabilities in ultrafast nonlinear optics. We consider how insight from these experiments can impact both directly in photonics and in leading to an improved understanding of rogue wave phenomena in hydrodynamics.
