Abstract
This paper describes photo receiver technologies for future high-bit-rate optical communications systems operating from 40 to over 100 Gbit/s. Possible photoreceiver configurations, the performance of conventional and advanced photodiodes, and a novel photoreceiver consisting of optoelectronic integrated devices for the ultra-high-bit-rate systems are discussed.
