Abstract :
In this contribution it will be shown how new forms of process visualisation and the integration of different information media can greatly help the operators of complex plants in supervisory control (S&C). The process visualisation aspects encompass process overview as well as detailed and context-specific yet interactive presentation of process information. The multimedia aspects show how the well-designed integration of video in particular can lead to an `augmented reality´ that helps to narrow the gap between central control rooms and the actual plant. An example from the application domain of power plant control illustrates the benefits
