Abstract :
Today, driving tasks are accomplished by controlling lateral and longitudinal dynamics. Conduct-by-wire (CbW) is an approach for semi-autonomous maneuver-based vehicle guidance, which promotes a more cognitive way of driving. Instead of performing stabilization tasks, drivers have the possibility to assign discrete maneuvers to a semi-automated vehicle. The vehicle converts the manual maneuver input into a stabilization level output by selecting appropriate functions for vehicle dynamics. CbW reduces the motor components of the driving task and enables a shift towards a more cognitive-based driving task. To implement this driving concept, a broad knowledge of drivers´ perceptions of driving situations and maneuvers is essential. This paper describes the methodology for the development of a maneuver catalog that reflects user expectations. A three-step procedure will be proposed that includes (i) identification of relevant decision points during a driving task, (ii) clustering of maneuvers in order to reduce the maneuver catalog complexity, in order to ensure its practical applicability and (iii) validation with the Wizard of Oz technique.
