  • Abstract
Itpsilas an inevitable trend for substation automation system (SAS) to comply to IEC 61850 standard. With the increasing development of non-conventional instrument transformers and intelligent primary equipment, the station bus and process bus strictly require bay level IEDs with network ports and real-time performance. Moreover, too much IEDs in SAS leds to multi-levels switch of network in SAS and complex operation condition with poor real-time performance. A solution suitable for IEC 61850-based new centralized IED is proposed. Due to the strong hardware and network interfaces, a new-style centralized IED can replace several conventional IEDs with lower cost, redundant configuration, and fewer network nodes which simplifies the network connection. Some key technology such as hardware and software structure is discussed. It is an approach for the implementation of SAS obeying IEC 61850.
