Abstract
The author relates his first-hand experiences in using solar cells as the primary source of electrical power for his dwelling. The home was designed to minimize its use of energy. The complete system is described, and its performance is characterized. Overall, the photovoltaic power system performs well. Very few component failures have been experienced during the twelve years of operation. Due to the conservative design with back-up systems, the home has never been without electricity
