Abstract :
In recent years, the interest in fault current limiting (FCL) technologies for power systems has significantly increased. The R&D in this area is developing and demonstrating successful prototypes of both superconducting (SC) and non-SC FCL devices. This paper discusses some potential applications and benefits expected from FCLs, including the potential cross- synergies between FCLs and superconducting cables. Key requirements for FCLs are discussed.
