Abstract

The service life of XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) cable which is manufactured in China is calculated. XLPE cables have been tested for about four years to estimate the cable life exponent N. Tests of water tree, dielectric loss, cross-linking degree of the cables, and cable insulation restoration after aging were performed. The voltage breakdown and aging phenomena of the cables are analyzed. The insulation quality of the XLPE cables manufactured in China was found to remain very good after accelerated aging tests
