Abstract :
Entergy has installed SVCs at two of its major load centers. Extensive voltage stability assessment was performed to understand any operational problems and to determine the most efficient size and location of the SVCs. This paper presents a brief summary of the planning aspect of one of the installations and provides details on one of the unique features of this SVC, which is coordinated control of existing capacitor banks using the SVC controls. Control strategy and communication infrastructure of the external device control feature are discussed.
