Abstract :
The design analysis of an epicycloidal mechanism (ARC drive) used to replace helical gears in a planetary speed reducer is presented. Epicycloidal mechanisms operate at high efficiency because torque is transmitted by rollers in between curate cycloidal surfaces. Backlash is expected to be reduced because a greater proportion of contact surfaces carry more radial load than do the teeth that mesh in a gear
