Abstract :
With increasing penetration of renewable and distributed resources in todaypsilas generation portfolios, it is necessary to develop strategies for rational expansion of distribution systems to accommodate the new resources. This paper presents examples of two different methods, based on computational intelligence, to the problem of optimal expansion of distribution systems. The two methods are shown to be applicable to two different scenarios, with different criteria for expansion. Each application is illustrated by means of an example.
