Abstract :
A solar simulator which combines three light sources to produce an output beam that can closely match a desired solar spectrum is described. The three selected light sources are suitably filtered, and their output beams are mixed by means of a trifurcated, randomized fiber cable to produce a highly uniform intensity distribution of the output beam. The criteria for selecting sources, filters, and other optical elements required to produce an AM 1.5 spectrum are discussed. The output spectrum is compared with the reference AM 1.5 spectral irradiance, and the results of single and multijunction solar cells tested under this simulator are compared with those from other simulators
