Abstract
The challenges and some candidate devices for ultrafast serial optical processing in all-optical fiber networks will be discussed. Our goal is to demonstrate key building blocks for a 100 Gbit/sec, time-division multiplexed, soliton ring network, which is a "light-pipe" network using fiber highways and all-optical interchanges. In particular, key enabling technologies required for reading the address on an information packet at speeds of l00 Gbit/s will be reviewed.
