Abstract :
In the paper, controlling of electrodes of a numerically controlled machine is done by a microcontroller, which is to be interfaced with a number of peripherals such as keyboard, EEPROM, display screen and stepper motors using FPGA platform. Interfacing the different modules to the controller through FPGA using VHDL language has been reported. The existing code of microcontroller for one dimension (Z- direction) motion to the three dimensional (X, Y, Z) motion in assembly language has been extended. Successful completion of the work involved motion of 3- motors, each for a particular direction (X, Y, Z). The three motors are responsible for 3 dimensional motion of electrode. The instantaneous position of the electrode while operation is displayed. The electrode automatically moves to the next position as per the input coordinates. The manual mode of movement of the electrode to the desired position is preserved.
