Abstract :
Radio communication systems play a major role in supporting wildfire suppression crews in firegrounds. In this paper, we consider the effect of fire upon 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.15.4 radio link and propagation characteristics variation over the distance. Observations revealed that the considered bandwidth has perceptible degradation in signal strength and link quality in the presence of fire. Moreover, consistent results were observed in deterioration in signal strength and link quality parameters over the distance for the considered small fire environment.
